How to Fried Egg Rice

Illustrated by Owen Lee

I think this Korean fried egg rice is the most familiar dish to many Koreans. It is the ‘go-to’ dish for children who have to cook for themselves, when their parents aren’t home, because of how easy it is to make. If I am so tired to go out for groceries, I just make fried egg rice because it doesn’t require many ingredients. So, let’s dive into the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 – 2 eggs (depending on how many eggs you got left :D)

  • 2 to 3 spoons of soy sauce

  • 2 spoons of sesame oil

  • Bowl of Cooked rice (210 g or 2 bowls which is about 420 g if you are hungry)

And that is it for the fried egg rice. Pretty simple right? Well, the actual recipe is easier.

  1. On a frying pan, coat it with cooking oil and heat it up to medium heat.

  2. Crack your egg(s) onto the frying pan until the edge is crispy (you don’t have to fully cook the egg yolk if you like Sunny Side up).

  3. Place the egg on the bowl of rice with a spatula.

  4. Add 2 to 3 spoons of soy sauce and sesame oil on top of the egg.

  5. Mix everything well with your spoon (to evenly distribute the soy sauce and sesame oil).

Here is your delicious fried egg rice. It is a very convenient dish when you are busy with no time to cook. Also, this dish comes with minimal washing (your spoon, spatula, bowl, and frying pan).

Enjoy!
