Publishing Books Online for Free

"The Jelly Bear"

Last year, I did some small personal project. I wanted to make my own book and publish it. I thought it would be a fun experience. So, I started sketching some ideas for stories. For weeks, I created poems and short stories for children. Among the stories that I created, the story about jelly bear stood out the most (I wanted to illustrate the cutest character).

Once I completed my text manuscript of the story, I illustrated the story into different sections. Instead of drawing through my tablet, I decided to use watercolor on paper. It took me about 16 hours to finish the illustration including taking pictures of the illustration to upload it on my computer.

Once my script and illustration were completed, I set up Amazon Kindle Direct Account and created an author's account. I hit 'create book' and had to edit my script according to the manuscript editor that the platform provides. I think there were limitations on how I wanted to layout my illustration and texts.

Anyways, I had no choice but to follow few layout options on the tool and publish accordingly. It was frustrating to navigate through the publishing process because there were many required sections like pricing (whether to do loyalty or not: I still don't know what that meant at the time).

Somehow, I managed to publish it without difficulty, and my book got published on February 2023. I had to wait several months to get my book approved which made me a bit anxious at first but I forgot about it. Come to think of it now, the process of making my own book was fun but I would look into other options to publish if I had more time.

If you are interested in publishing a book with illustration, take your time to find tools and publishing platform or publisher to fit your preferred layout of the book content.
